For five out of seven days each week our alarm clock sings obnoxiously at an early hour and prompts us to get out of bed and get ready for a day of work. Whether it’s by car, train, bus or plane, we still end up at the same place – our office.
Are you excited to enter your office each day? I don’t mean to dig into your never-ending stack of work. You may love what you do, but do you truly like your office
space?
Most of us can relate to the dreaded cubicle …
Or the open space plan that allows you to hear every conversation around you.
It’s important to be happy with your office setting, especially since Americans spend over 2,000 hours there each year. I prefer some color around me. Take a look at what some companies are doing around the world. From bright colors to slides and pool tables, these offices are fun, creative and productive. I bet the employees love their space!

We definitely need a slide... not that we have a 2nd story (attic.DMD, anyone?). But in all seriousness, sterile work places make for sterile ideas. As a survivor of both the cubicle wasteland (a la the movie Office Space) and open office plan, I feel the networking benefits of the latter outweigh the period dip in productivity associated with a loud neighboring conference call. However, creating an office space that truly reflects the values and style of the company (which can be done via either layout) is a neat idea for establishing brand identity and building employee pride.

But yes, so many of us spend most of our lives at the office - that should be taken into account when designing out the space. The views we have of the pier and the passing boats is certainly a serene vision to enjoy.
