Whether headed to Chicago this week or not, here are 10 things everyone should know about the
NeoCon World Trade Fair:
1. Held annually in Chicago, the NeoCon World Trade Fair is one of the world's largest interior design expos, encompassing 1.2 million square feet and hosting more than 1,200 exhibitors across 10 floors.
2. NeoCon (The National Exposition of Contract Furnishings) is expected to draw over 50,000 trade professionals over the 3-day period.
3. Hosted at
The Merchandise Mart - affectionately know as "The Mart" - the picturesque and historic venue is the world's largest commercial building, spanning two entire city block and rising 25 stories.
4. Think interior design is irrelevant? Think again! Interior designers are responsible for planning out every component of the spaces for almost every type of building that we live and work in.
5. The proof is in the pudding: studies have shown that successful interior design can dramatically improve occupant satisfaction, increase productivity, and improve the quality of life - most of the time without the occupants realizing why!
6. Underscoring the importance of the industry, last week Illinois Governor Pat Quinn released an official gubernatorial proclamation that June 15 – 22, 2009 will be deemed “Interior Design Week” in Illinois.
7. The show is accompanied by a lively
Student Series, consisting of networking and learning opportunities free to all interior design and architecture students and educators.
