Interior Design magazine hosted the selection of new products and projects on Dec. 3.
While the crowd was still excited about the Hall of Fame dinner from the night before, hundreds packed the theatre in the Guggenheim to celebrate the best new products and projects of 2009. The competition was stiff, too.
Ranging from building products to kitchen appliances (personal favorites in both categories), to hotels and residences, the range was broad and awe-inspiring.
Attending both the Hall of Fame dinner and the Best of Year Awards (back-to-back) reminded me of the good old days of design. At those two events, there was only achievement (and a whole lot of glamour). To see such a collection of great products and projects confirmed what I believe—that the design industry might be affected economically, but it will never be affected creatively.
The fantastic, entrepreneurial brains that are attracted to design encouraged me to see that it will thrive again. When it does, the bar will be raised even higher.
See the Best of 2009.
