Posted by Katy Voevodkin on June 28 at 5:17 AM Having acquired the newest version of Adobe Creative Suite 5 made us painfully aware of the leaps and bounds in advancement over CS3. Having taken some time to road test all that's new, here are our Top 10 favorite new updates about CS5:

Let’s Talk Design II

Posted by Gina Miller on February 17 at 12:00 AM Defining design certainly varies, but from our commentators on yesterday's "Let's Talk Design I", it keeps coming back to making that connection – emotional or rational.

Now what happens when we add words?

Greenbuild: The Momentum is Building

Posted by Rebecca Goldberg on November 18 at 12:21 PM Growth. It was the buzzword at last week’s Greenbuild and as someone who attends multiple A+D events a year, it’s the first time that I’ve heard it associated with a tradeshow in 2009.

Perhaps it is the niche market, federal money, or relevance of sustainable design but Greenbuild’s numbers were up this year. The conference, which is less than a decade old, celebrated a much-quoted 30,000 visitors.

Conversation v. Authority. In this episode, Architecture!

Posted by Rowland Hobbs on September 29 at 10:17 AM Nicolai Ouroussoff, the architecture critic for The New York Times, provided a list of buildings he would demolish. Toping my list is Penn Station.

But it was Ourousoff’s attack on the Museum of Art and Design (MAD) that created a bit of a stir in the Architectural blogs, with BusinessWeek’s Bruce Nassbaum citing this as another sign of the death of The New York Times.

Architecture became for an instant a lighting rode for the ongoing paradigm debate of conversation versus authority. Topics: advertising, interactive        3 Comments Read Full Post

Designers Can Save The Newspaper

Posted by Rowland Hobbs on July 28 at 4:00 PM Journalists write. They don’t design.

With newspapers nationwide suffering from lost advertising, revenue, and market share, how can we imagine a solution that can breathe new life into these failing brands? The start of some of my thinking is of the role designers may have in saving the newspaper. A new breed I am calling the "designalist".

Is print RISING FROM THE DEAD?

This little thing might just change everything.
This little thing might change everything

How often do I hear on the street "Hey! Newspapers are dead! Magazines are finished! Kaput to the printed word and all advertisements that go along with it!"? Hearing this fills me with rage. Yes. Print is dead. Right. So why do I work in integrated marketing? That's when I tell the coffee cart guy on the corner to just give me my bearclaw and keep his opinions on media to himself.

But wait! Hold the phones. Is print really dead? Or is it a gateway to a NEW DIMENSION? I'm not high off my bearclaw, I'm just excited. What am I talking about? Let's just say it starts with Google... Topics: advertising, interactive        1 Comment Read Full Post

A tale of two social networks

Rapid Prototyping for Architecture and the culture of "making things"

Posted by Rowland Hobbs on October 21 at 8:07 PM A truly fascinating read in this month's Harvard Design Magazine arguing for architecture to embrace more mass production and step away from custom design. I found the read exhilarating as it embraced some of today's intriguing ideas: rapid prototyping, 3D printing, and Building Information Management (BIM). I actually found the article through Tree Hugger which gets very excited about the idea of "printing buildings" which would much better control the use and removal of building products....
